Chopin 2010


Chopin in love - Mazovia inspirations (exhibition)

Date: December 17, 2009 until May 31, 2010.
Location: Warsaw's Ethnographic Museum

It presents links between Chopin’s oeuvre and folk music along with the composer’s imprint in the world’s different cultures. The exhibition will display folk instruments typical for Polish territories in Chopin’s time. You will also find there archive sound and video recordings featuring folk musicians and their performances. The visitors will also have a chance to listen to innovative renderings of the famous composer’s pieces using the sounds of the world’s five continents. The exhibition’s idea is well highlighted by its modern and expressive visual design. The exhibition’s script was written by Maria Pomianowska and the visual design was created by Grzegorz Wac³awek, Marcin Mostafa and Natalia Paszkowska.

Special birthday concerts

The beginning of the series of events Chopin 2010. It is organised by the F. Chopin Institute and will feature a series of concerts.

Date: between 22 February and 1 March 2010 (encompassing the two hypothetical dates of the composer's birth).

Celebrating the 200th anniversary of the genius composer’s birth, Warsaw will be hosting a splendid array of the world’s pianism, with performances by Martha Argerich, Daniel Barenboim, Piotr Anderszewski, Leif Ove Andsnes, Rafa³ Blechacz, who will open the celebrations, Dang Thai Son, Evgeny Kissin, Garrick Ohlsson, Janusz Olejniczak, Murray Perahia, Ivo Pogorelich and Yundi Li. The artists will be accompanied by Frans Brüggen’s Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century and the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Antoni Wit. A detailed calendar of concerts will soon be available.

21th October 2010, at 8 p.m. - Prizewinner's Concert,
22th October 2010, at 7:30 p.m. - repetition of the Prizewinner's Concert,
23th October 2010, at 7:30 p.m. - second repetition of the Prizewinner's Concert.

Special Concerts:
1st October 2010, at 7:30 p.m. - Piano Recital: Mitsuko Uchida,
2nd October 2010, at 7:30 p.m. - Concert: Martha Argerich and Nelson Freire,
17th October 2010 - Concert: Orchestre des Champs-Élysées, Philippe Herreweghe (conductor). W. A. Mozart - Requiem d-moll.
